Cardi B Leads This Year’s Billboard Music Awards Nominations

There’s no shortage of female recognition at this year’s Billboard Music Awards with rapper Cardi B leading the pack this year with 21 nominations in 18 categories, a whopping 13 more nominations than she earned last year. Announced today, Billboard shared the nominees for this year’s awards on Twitter.

Coming in behind Cardi B are Drake and Post Malone, who each have 17 nominations, Travis Scott with 12, and XXXTentacion with 10. Canadian talent was repped well too with Shania Twain and Justin Bieber each earning one nod, and The Weeknd earning three.

Cardi B is also competing against herself in three categories: Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, and Top Collaboration for “I Like It,” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin, and “Girls Like You” with Maroon 5.

A number of artists have also been nominated outside of their usual genres. Snoop Dogg and Tori Kelly have nominations for Top Gospel Album while Kelly also has a Top Gospel Song nomination. Bieber’s one nomination is for Top R&B Song, Bebe Rexha’s for Top Country Song, Bad Bunny and J Balvin each have one for Top Rap Song, and Drake and DJ Snake are both up for Top Latin Song.

Competition in the Top Social Artist category will once again be stiff, with K-pop powerhouses EXO and GOT7 going up against BTS, who will be defending their two-year winning streak.

Kelly Clarkson will host the ceremony in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Billboard Music Awards air Wednesday May 1 on 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV2.
