Dev Hynes and Carly Rae Jepsen made magic when they hit the studio together for Jepsen’s 2015 Emotion and created the breathy ballad “All That.” The duo again teamed up for Hynes’ latest release under his musical moniker Blood Orange, crafting “Better Than Me,” the latest single from Freetown Sound.
Now Hynes and Jepsen have released a mesmerizing contemporary dance video, with Hynes again stepping in front of and behind the camera as both a performer and director—roles he also filled for his “Augustine” and “I Know” videos from Freetown Sound.
Shot in a sun-filled loft, Hynes and a group of dancers perform in business suits while a similarly office-appropriate Jepsen watches. The dancers perform choreographed routines as well as freestyle expressions throughout “Better Than Me,” with Jepsen singing “Why choose love when hate comes first? / And I know they’re better than me /Wait your turn and change your ways / But I know he’s better than me.”
Earlier this year, Jepsen teamed up with British producer Danny L. Harle for the single “Super Natural” and released <em>Emotions: B Sides. The Canadian pop star is expected to release new disco-inspired music sometime in 2017.
