The We Day 2015 broadcast date is right around the corner, but before you watch the full show that’s filled with amazing speakers and performers, we’re taking you backstage and behind the scenes to chat with one of the events’ headlining artists—Carly Rae Jepsen.
We got a chance to catch up with Jepsen before she took the stage and performed her pop hit Run Away With Me and talked past WE Days, her musical inspirations and how she affects change with her own passions.
As a WE Day veteran herself, Jepsen recounted a time when her younger sister, Katie, also attended a WE Day event a few years earlier: “She came home changed woman. She was inspired. She wanted to recycle for the first time in her life,” Jepsen said of her sister. “I just thought that if it could affect one girl in such a great way, it was something I wanted to be a part of too.”
WE Day is an annual event hosted by the charity Free The Children that encourages youth to get involved with social change. This year’s event had a long list guest speakers and performers including Shawn Mendes, Hozier, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas. More than 20 000 students packed the Air Canada Centre to take part in the event.
