If you’re in the mood for some nostalgia today, we have the perfect video for you. Charli XCX and Troye Sivan have teamed up for an ode to the late 1990s with their new duet “1999.” In case the song, which includes the lines “I just wanna go back, sing ‘Hit me baby, one more time'” wasn’t a clear indication that these two have a favourite decade, their new video is full of remakes of famous pop culture moments from the late ’90s.
Although the song is called “1999,” Charli XCX and Troye Sivan remake scenes from famous music videos, movies and pop culture moments that took place throughout the late 90s. Oddly, the pair don’t pay homage to any of the specific moments they mention in the song, including Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” Puff Daddy and Mase’s “Mo Money, Mo Problems,” or the Spice Girls track “2 Become 1,” but they still hit some of the most iconic moments of the decade. We’re talking about you, Marilyn Manson and Rose McGowan.
TROYE AND I INVENTED NOSTALGIA. UR WELCOME 💚💅🏼

Throwing in a few Steve Jobs impressions and spot-on Baby G watch commercial and Charli and Sivan have captured the true essence of a time of flip phones, dial-up, and really questionable fashion. Just kidding, we still love platform sneakers.
Check out the video below and see how close Charli XCX and Troye Sivan got to the real deal.
