Chance The Rapper Gives Star-Studded Gospel Performance On Fallon

Chance The Rapper blessed the audience of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night with his elaborate performance of “Blessings (Reprise).” The soft, hymn-like track featured on his recent mixtape Coloring Book came to life in a visual five-minute performance.

The Chicago MC was joined on stage by D.R.A.M., Anthony Hamilton, Ty Dolla $ign and Raury, who all contributed background vocals, while Ty and Raury also played bass and guitar.  Chance rapped his verses over top, then joined the other artists for a harmonious chorus.

But it didn’t stop there.

Just as the performance was coming to a close, a full Gospel choir filled the aisles of the studio, clapping and singing along to the grande finale—leading the studio audience to vibe along like a Sunday morning in church.

Chance sat down with Jimmy afterwards to talk about why he doesn’t believe in selling his music. “There are always new ways of releasing,” Chance said. “There’s visual albums and full concerts and big Broadway musicals, and so many ways that music moves around now that I feel like trying to fit it into a for-sale album is kind of obsolete. It gives me more space to create.”

Coloring Book is the first streaming only album to chart on Billboard, taking the number eight spot.

Although it looks like Chance isn’t taking a break these days, he did revise a new version of the Kit Kat “Gimme A Break” jingle yesterday. A tweet released by the company features the rapper dressed in a full bear costume holding the chocolate bar, and states that Chance has something new up his sleeve for the brand.
