There aren’t many singers who can step into the recording booth with vocal legend Christina Aguilera, but Demi Lovato is up to the task. The two pop stars have just released their new duet “Fall In Line” for Aguilera’s upcoming eighth studio album Liberation and have just become the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler of vocal partners.
Both known for their soaring notes and huge ranges, Aguilera and Lovato are the perfect partners for “Fall In Line,” a song of empowerment for girls and women. The subject matter is another slam dunk for the two artists, who have used their platforms and their music to push social change and women’s rights, speaking out for the LGBTQ community and advocating for mental health.
Whereas Aguilera’s lead single “Accelerate” tried to be too many things at once and in turn failed to be the huge comeback single we’d hope for, “Fall In Line” may be the pop star’s next “Beautiful.” Teaming up with Lovato gives both stars a boost and emphasizes the song’s message of empowering women together.
Posting about the new duet on her Instagram account, Aguilera wrote a touching letter about Lovato, saying “I believe our paths were destined to cross and I am so proud to come together from the pasts we’ve overcome; to the strong women we are today! You are truly a GEM, I have immense love and respect for you! You are an inspiration for future young girls of your generation. Beautiful work!”
Aguilera and Lovato are scheduled to perform “Fall In Line” together live for the first time during Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. Expect a diva vocal-off of epic proportions. We can’t wait.
Christina Aguielra’s upcoming album Liberation, her first in six years following 2012’s Lotus, will drop in full on June 15 and is available for pre-order now.
