Coldplay are keeping new music coming in between albums. The English foursome are releasing their EP, Kaleidoscope, later this month and have teamed up once again with producer Brian Eno for their new tracks.
Having previously worked with Eno on 2008’s Viva La Vida and 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay have once again found magic in the studio with the famed producer, combining ambient music and pop sensibilities to create the exciting new single “Aliens.”
Coldplay have now released an animated lyric video for the melancholy pop track, which shows a family of four aliens being torn from their home by space ships and invaders. The video is directed by Ben Jones, who has been behind the camera for animated series like Teen Titans, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Batman: The Brave And The Bold.
While the song’s lyrics focus on aliens found in outer space, its deeper message for those displaced from their homeland by war and famine is clear with the closing shot. A white screen with text reveals that all proceeds from the sale of “Aliens” will go to the Migrant Offshore Aid Station, which has rescued tens of thousands of migrants and refugees since 2014.
Kaleidoscope will be digitally available July 14, and fans can purchase the album on CD or vinyl starting August 4. The five-song EP will including the previously released “All I Can Think About Is You,” as well as a remix of the band’s Chainsmokers duet, “Something Just Like This.” Rapper Big Sean also appears on the upcoming EP, marking one of the few instances of Coldplay delving into the world of hip-hop.
