At just 13 years old, Toronto-native Ethan Young just became the youngest artist to have his song released on CTV’s breakthrough series The Launch. But this isn’t his first time he’s had his work released. In his audition clip, Young explains that while he’d always known he wanted to be a singer, it was when he was 9 that he joined the Mini Pop Kids.
Young auditioned singing Andra Day’s “Rise Up” and wowed mentors Scott Borchetta, Boy George, and Stephan Moccio. Without any deliberation Young was put through to the next stage of the competition: preparing his own version of the new original single “Giants.”
The next 48 hours were spent recording “Giants” in the studio with Stephan Moccio and preparing to perform it in front of a live audience with Boy George. Special guest Alessia Cara even came through to give Young some advice from one young artist to another. When the clock was up, Young delivered the charismatic performance below.
The mentors were impressed by the performance, especially the way Young seemed to take the audience’s energy and redirect it straight to his voice. After some deliberation, they delivered good news to the young artist—that his version of “Giants” would be released.
“Giants” is following in the chart-topping footsteps of its launched predecessors to date—Logan Staats’ “The Lucky Ones,” Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine’s “Ain’t Easy,” (which was co-written by Camila Cabello), The Static Shift‘s “Wide Awake,” POESY‘s “Soldier of Love,”and Jayd Ink‘s “Codes.”
