The song was written just 48 hours before the performance. Chance explained to Colbert, “I wanted to do something fresh, and not going to lie, I’ve been in the studio lately cooking up some yammers.”
Chance showed the Torontonian love on Twitter, writing, “I’m currently performing with @DanielCaesar on @colbertlateshow What an honor.” Caesar also thanked Chance on Instagram earlier today.
In an interview with Forbes earlier this year, Caesar cited Chance’s career trajectory as his blueprint to success. Caesar, who, similar to Chance, has avoided a major label deal, explained, “The music industry is changing and we’re in no man’s land right now. It’s still hard to say that I want to follow this method or that method because realistically, things will be very different in a few years.”
Just last month, Caesar released his first ever full-length LP Freudian, and became the first Canadian artist chosen to be featured in Apple Music’s Up Next series. He kicks off his 31-date—all of which are sold out—North American Freudian Tour in Philadelphia next month.
