Are DJ Khaled And Justin Bieber’s ‘I’m The One’ And ‘No Brainer’ Actually Different Songs?

No Brainer, Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, Chance The Rapper, Quavo

DJ Khaled released another one this month, specifically another pop song with a line up of some of the biggest names in music. With “No Brainer,” DJ Khaled teams up with Justin Bieber, Quavo, and Chance The Rapper for a breezy song that is begging for radio play. Khaled and co. have now dropped a bright and shiny party-filled video to go with the new song. Think you’re having deja vu? You’re not. Both the song and video sound almost exactly like DJ Khaled’s 2017 hit track “I’m The One.”

So, are “No Brainer” and “I’m The One” actually different songs and videos? We investigate. Spoiler: they’re pretty much the same thing.

The Collaborators

In 2017, DJ Khaled brought together Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper, Quavo from Migos, and Lil Wayne. In 2018, the producer reunited the group minus Lil Wayne. Don’t worry, though. There’s still the inevitable 2019 version of this song that will likely bring Weezy back.

The Beat

“I’m The One” is a breezy, upbeat pop track featuring verses from rappers and a catchy chorus sung by Justin Bieber. Ditto for “No Brainer.” Is there a not-so-hidden message in the new song’s title? We think so.

The Lyrical Message

“I’m The One” is about chasing women and fame. “No Brainer” is about chasing women and…fame. Both songs also refer to women as ‘bitches and hoes.’ But it’s catchy, so we just ignore those parts, right?

The Music Video

In “I’m The One,” DJ Khaled throws a pool party at his mansion and the musicians party and perform with beautiful women in front of expensive cars. In “No Brainer,” DJ Khaled directs a video on a sound lot and features a fancy party with beautiful women in front of vintage cars. “No Brainer” includes Ciroc, Bumbu, Belaire, and Fashion Nova product placements, while “I’m The One” features Ciroc, Bumbu, Belaire, and Beats By Dre. Totes different.

The Director

While “I’m The One” was produced by DJ Khaled’s son Asahd, the video for “No Brainer” was directed by Asahd. A lot can change when you mature to 19 months.

The Timing

“I’m The One” was released at the end of April 2017, while “No Brainer” dropped July 2018. Though the songs are a little over one year apart, they both arrived in time to rule the summer airwaves. Prepare to hear “No Brainer”. A lot.

There’s really only one way to tell the difference between “I’m The One” and “No Brainer” and it’s courtesy of the Biebs facial hair. Praise be to Biebus.
