Guess Which Major TV Series Will Feature A Cameo From Ed Sheeran?

It’s official—Ed Sheeran is heading to Westeros. The longtime fan of the award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones shot a cameo for season seven, which is scheduled to premiere on July 16. All hail the ginger king, leader of the little-known eighth kingdom.

Sheeran’s cameo was confirmed over the weekend by the writers of Game of Thrones, who participated in a panel discussion at SXSW in Austin. Also on hand at the festival were Game of Thrones stars Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark).

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who adapted George RR Martin’s book series, revealed during the panel that Ed’s visit to set was years in the making. “For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,” Benioff said.

The cast and crew of Game of Thrones did not reveal any specifics about Sheeran’s upcoming cameo, including whether or not his scene is with Williams. As a self-declared fan girl, we hope it is. Plus, who wouldn’t want to do a scene with Arya? She’s such a badass.

Sheeran’s relationship with the cast of Game of Thrones goes back before his cameo. Along with friend Zach Braff, the two have spent time with Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow. Before releasing his third studio album Divide, Sheeran invited the cast of Game of Thrones to his house to hear the new record. Now that we think of it, this probably should have been a clue that Sheeran had shot a cameo, but when you’re one of the world’s biggest pop stars, we just assume you hang out with cool people all the time.

Sheeran is the latest musician to appear on GoT, with Coldplay’s Will Champion, Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Ros and Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody all appearing on previous seasons.

Coincidentally, just as singer Ed Sheeran heads to TV, GoTs’ Williams and Turner will be heading to music. During the SXSW panels, the Stark sisters revealed that they will appear on an upcoming episode of Apple TV’s Carpool Karaoke.

The actors didn’t reveal which songs they’ll be singing along to, but we’re guessing a few Ed Sheeran tracks and maybe a DNCE number are safe bets.
