It’s no secret that Jessie Reyez is one of the most exciting new artists of the past two years. The Canadian singer and songwriter stunned the music world with her raw and vulnerable lead single “Figures,” using the song about heartbreak and self doubt to catapult her career.
Appearing on Calvin Harris’ star-studded 2017 Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, Reyez went on to release her own debut EP Kiddo, earning appearances on The Tonight Show and the BET Awards. Taking home two iHeartRadio MMVAs in 2017 for Best New Canadian Artist and Fan Fave Video For “Shutter Island”, Reyez stole the show at the 2018 JUNO Awards, performing “Figures, A Reprise” with fellow Toronto artist Daniel Caesar and winning Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
Now it looks like we’re not the only ones who have fallen in love with the musical mastermind. The usually reclusive Eminem has recently become a fan of social media and on Thursday, Slim Shady posted a picture of himself in the studio with Reyez. Captioning the photo “In the studio with my new super talented friend Jessie,” both artists are barely visible in the selfie, but it’s enough to have us shook.
In two decades and nine solo albums, there have only been a handful of singers and songwriters that Eminem has worked with on his music. Em’s 2017 Revival is the rapper at his most collaborative, with songs that include appearances from Skylar Grey, Kehlani, Ed Sheeran, and Beyoncé. Once again, Beyoncé.
So yeah, is this a huge deal that Jessie Reyez and Eminem are in the studio together? Yas. Are we now on high alert and fully prepared to hear a new collaboration between the two? You bet.
