Disney has announced that it’s taking the 1991 animated film Beauty and the Beast and turning it into a live-action film. While we were skeptical at first (who messes with a tale as old as time?), after hearing the incredible lineup of talent both in front of and behind the camera, we ran straight to the closest library and began singing to books. Emma Watson as Belle? Perfection.
A teaser trailer was released in May, which took viewers on a tour of the Beast’s castle, with music from composer Alan Menken’s score from the 1991 film playing throughout. Dialogue was limited, but a short conversation between Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) and Cogsworth (Ian McKellan) is audible as Belle finds her way inside the castle.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary and re-release of the animated film on September 6, Disney is giving fans a more in-depth look behind the scenes at exactly how the new film is coming together. Released today, this sneak peek of Beauty and the Beast shows Watson and Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens, who will play the Beast, preparing at a table read.
“When something is so perfect, why get near it?” asks director Bill Condon is this new clip. “The answer is, technology has caught up to the ideas that were introduced in that movie.”
The film also stars Luke Evans as Gaston, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza and Kevin Kline as Maurice.
Beauty and the Beast waltzes into theatres March 17, 2017.
