The coming of age story Love, Simon is shaping up to be not only one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, but it also features one of the most highly anticipated soundtracks.
Produced by Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, the upcoming soundtrack features a number of songs by Antonoff, as well as Troye Sivan, MØ, Amy Shark, and The 1975. But one of the biggest tracks fans have been looking forward to is the collaboration between solo artist Khalid and Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei.
Ahead of both the film and soundtrack’s release date of March 16, Khalid and Normani have dropped their new duet “Love Lies” and have lived up to the high expectations set for both artists. The soulful and seductive new duet keeps the backing track simple and powerful, while Normani and Khalid go back and forth with their vocals on whether to trust their new lover.
“Love Lies” is Normani’s first single outside of Fifth Harmony and possibly signals more solo work. Fellow Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui worked with Halsey on her latest album and is rumoured to have recently signed a solo deal.
The new collaboration between Khaid and Normani is an exciting change for the Fifth Harmony member, with Normani showcasing a side of her vocals and musical styling that fans have yet to hear on a 5H album.
“Love Lies” is the second original single to be released from the Love, Simon soundtrack. Jack Antonoff debuted “Alfie’s Song (Not Your Typical Love Song)” in January, when he also announced the impressive line up for the soundtrack.
Love, Simon, which is based on the novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, follows high school student Simon (Nick Robinson) as he prepares to come out to his friends and family.
Both the film and soundtrack for Love, Simon will be released on March 16.
