Two artists that have enjoyed some of their biggest successes thanks to collaborations are Pitbull and Fifth Harmony—so the only real surprise with the two musical acts finally joining is that they haven’t already.
The fivesome just dropped the music video for their caliente track “Por Favor” and have us wishing we had taken Spanish classes in high school.
Although the song has a Spanish title and is sung almost entirely in Spanish by Pitbull and the women of Fifth Harmony, the music video has a strong Japanese influence. Pitbull meets a woman of Japanese ancestry in a Japanese-styled home in Los Angeles, complete with a koi pond and golden buddhas. The two flirt throughout the video until she brandishes a sword in the final scene. The video for “Por Favor” is introduced as Part 1, so maybe Part 2 will tell us exactly what she plans on doing with that sword.
As for Fifth Harmony, it appears their scenes were shot separately, with the women looking stunning in floor length gowns in front of a red backdrop. What, no cool swords for 5H? These women deserve more than one shot in a music video.
While we usually find Fifth Harmony our favourite part of any music video, this time around the women come in a close second to Pitbull’s oversized fortune cookie (so is this Japanese or Chinese-themed?) with the fortune that reads ‘Dale.’ It’s just so Pitbull.
Earlier this year, Pitbull teamed up with J Balvin and former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello for the track “Hey Ma.” Gotta give it to Mr. 305. He knows how to pick duet partners.
Check out Fifth Harmony and Pitbull in “Por Favor.” Let’s hope for Part 2, the women of 5H get to do more than stand around and sing.
