Fifth Harmony Surprising Sam Smith Is The Best Thing You’ll See All Week

Sam Smith, Fifth Harmony, Carpool Karaoke

Earlier this fall, Sam Smith sat down with Apple Beats host Zane Lowe to talk about his emotional new album The Thrill Of It All, out tomorrow. In addition to their conversation on break ups, excessive drinking and depression, there was one decidedly light spot in the conversation—Sam Smith is a Harmonizer.

The English singer revealed that Fifth Harmony are at the top of his list of artists he’s obsessed with, something that became crystal clear during Smith’s new segment of Carpool Karaoke.

Just released this week, the segment starts off normally, with Smith and James Corden driving around LA singing some of Smith’s biggest songs, including “Lay By Your Side,” which Smith revealed Corden helped promote by tweeting about the song while Smith was still working in a bar and not yet a full time musician.

Eventually, the conversation turned to Smith’s love of the X Factor girl group. “When I hear them I feel free, I feel alive, I feel like the woman in me is on fire,” said Smith of Fifth Harmony. “‘Work From Home’ I listen to every time before I go out. I think it’s my wedding song. I want to walk down the aisle to it in heels. I’d love it if I got Fifth Harmony at my wedding and my husband was just at the end waiting for me.”

So, yeah, Sam Smith loves Fifth Harmony. The pair begin to sing “Work From Home,” with Corden cutting the song halfway through and making a phone call to his producers. It’s right about here that you can literally watch Sam Smith experience one of the best moments of his life, which is saying a lot for an Oscar and Grammy-winning musician.

Realizing he’s about to be surprised with one of his favourite bands, Smith begins shaking and can barely contain his excitement as Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui pile into the back seat. It may be the best moment of Sam Smith’s life, but it’s definitely fun for us to watch as well.

This is what the happiest man in America looks like.
