Meet The Final 10 Aspiring Artists Coming To ‘The Launch’

The first 20 artists appearing on CTV’s new series The Launch have been announced (check them out here) and today we’re learning the names of the final 10 musical acts coming to the exciting new series in January.

The new six-part hour-long series will feature 30 incredible musical acts from across Canada, a group that has been handpicked from 10,000 applicants. Each episode will spotlight five of the 30 up-and-coming artists as they receive priceless mentorship from some of the best musicians in the business. The five unsigned artists will have 48 hours to prove themselves worthy of the chance to record their own original song while being mentored by a panel of experts, including Shania Twain, Boy George, Alessia Cara, Fergie, Nikki Sixx, Julia Michaels, Jennifer Nettles and more.

The Launch will premiere in January, but before then, we’re introducing you to the 30 talented artists that will be making their mark on the music industry. We’ve already met the first 20 (check them out here) and today we’re meeting the final group of 10 artists.

Musical Genres: Soul, folk, R&B. Chad Price is an evolving artist hailing from London, Ont. Since 2011, he has been carefully honing his craft on stages throughout Canada, earning a reputation as an “artist to watch.” Playing hundreds of shows, Chad has shared the stage with the likes of Ben Harper, The Strumbellas, Walk Off The Earth, Lights, and many more. Constantly building on the maturity and sophistication that he developed since his first album release in 2012, Chad finds peace and comfort in his musical abilities, channeling these powerful emotions into his latest self-titled album. As a recording artist, songwriter, and co-producer, Chad has evolved into a musical powerhouse bringing his own concoction of R&B, soul, blues, and folk together. Chad’s only aim now is to share the music he has so carefully created with the rest of the world.

Musical Genres: Indie, folk, pop, rock. Hailing from Belle River, P.E.I., singer-songwriter Dylan Menzie is quickly propelling up the ranks of the Canadian music scene. With a sprawling vocal range and compelling approach to composition, Menzie has made an indelible mark in the talent-rich Atlantic Canadian music market with his 2013 debut EP, Heather Avenue. Earning him Music PEI Award nominations and acclaim from industry influencers, the release led him to high-profile performances throughout the Maritimes, including opening slots for City and Colour and Ron Sexsmith. In 2016, Dylan was a finalist in CBC’s annual Searchlight competition on the back of his breakout single, “Kenya”, which subsequently spent two weeks at number one on CBC Radio 2’s Top 20, leading up to the release of his 2016 album Adolescent Nature. The record, anchored by the strength of songs like “Kenya” and follow-up single “Talk to Me”, showcases the pure emotion one can extract from a great voice and keen sense of dynamics.

Musical genres: R&B and pop. Elequen is an exuberant singer-songwriter who began her career in entertainment as a model, landing herself in magazines, books, and more. Her passion for performing arts took her even further with modeling campaigns and acting roles for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Canada’s Wonderland, IMAX, and even landing her on a billboard. While pursuing her modeling and acting career, Elequen was quietly perfecting her craft as a singer-songwriter, writing catchy melodies and emotive lyrics, teaching herself to record demos, and performing for audiences of more than 4,000 people.

Hometown: Perth and Ottawa, Ont.
Musical genres: Soulful, vibey pop and jazz, hip-hop and R&B. The “x” in Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine is pronounced “and,” but it could also be said to represent the multiplying effect the two artists have on one another. When Elijah (instrumentalist/composer) and Jamie (lyricist/vocalist) put their passions together, the possibilities are endless. Feeling as though they complete each other creatively, Jamie admits to being the more emotional of the two, and is well aware of how Elijah’s focus provides the counterbalance needed to stay on course. Their partnership began when Elijah heard Jamie’s soulful vocals on a track recorded by a friend. Four days later, the two were together in his studio, where they challenged each other musically. Elijah and Jamie use their bond, and musical multiplication effect to continue to grow their passion.

Musical genre: Indie. Grace Bakker is an 18-year-old singer/songwriter from Toronto. Inspired by artists like Amy Winehouse, City and Colour, and Matt Maeson, her voice offers sounds from many different places. Beginning singing at a very young age, Grace is also self-taught on guitar. With fresh ideas, mature songs, and past inspirations for her newer music, Grace is ready to show the music industry something real and exciting, and to use her life experiences and unique look to inspire others to be who they truly want to be.

Under the pseudonym of Havelin, Edmonton’s Alex Zaichkowski strives to tell a story with his music. Channeling his inner folk writer, Havelin takes cues from the early influences of Dan Mangan, Tom Waits, and Father John Misty. His words are straight from the heart and his music is kept simple, honest, and cuts right to the core. The anticipated release of his new music in late 2017 will see the evolution of Havelin’s style and sound, chronicling the full spectrum of human emotions experienced within romantic entanglement. There will be a song for every feeling, every smile, and every struggle.

Musical genre: Indie-Pop. King City, Ont.’s soul-tinged singer Julia Tomlinson is ready to make her mark on the music industry. Spending countless hours in studio sessions, Julia’s ambition, creativity, and positive attitude has brought along life-changing opportunities and helped her grow both personally and as an incredible independent artist. Captivating audiences with her vocal range and musical variety, Julia has showcased these skills at venues such as Toronto’s Mod Club, The Opera House, and a multitude of private events. Julia’s main influences throughout her career include Sia, Amy Winehouse, and Pharrell. These influences not only resonate through her music, but also show within her singing ability. Throughout her hard work over the past four years, Julia is continuously releasing new music and sounds and is making a stand to differentiate her music from all the rest.

Musical genre: Soul. Calm, quiet, shy, funny, and reserved are all adjectives that best describe 15-year-old Sariyah…until she starts to sing! Sariyah has been moving audiences with her mature and soulful vocals since the age of seven. With performances at Toronto’s Opera House, Danforth Music Hall, Yonge-Dundas Square, Hugh’s Room, the Hard Rock Café, the Rose Theatre, and the CNE already under her belt, Sariyah demonstrates the value of hard work and determination. Sariyah is the 2015 Youth Grand Champion of CNE’s Rising Star, and a multi-medalist for Team Canada at the 2016 World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. She continues to showcase her growing skills by working on original songwriting, and expanding her platform with the goal to share her own take on old soul music.

Calgary based power trio The Static Shift is comprised of Mitchell Brady (guitar/lead vocals), Keone Friesen (Bass/harmonica/background vocals), and Isaiah Stonehouse (drums/background vocals), whose sound radiates classic/blues rock with romps of alternative, indie, and psychedelic rock. Bursting onto the local Calgary scene at the ages of 14, The Static Shift were the youngest band to ever headline the Blues Can. Now with more than 130 live performances under their belt and multiple award wins, The Static Shift has shared the stage with Trooper, Colin James, The Sheepdogs, and more. With more than 50 original songs and a handful of cover songs with a Static Shift twist, their unique and exciting performances always leaves fans wanting more.

Musical genres: Pop and R&B. Beginning her singing career at the age of 10, Victoria Azevedo made a name for herself after winning several local singing contests in her hometown of Toronto. Inspired by the contest wins and fueled by her passion for the stage, Victoria worked with one of Canada’s top vocal coaches Elaine Overholt to further hone her already impressive vocal range. As a member of acclaimed singing group Mini Pop Kids, Victoria recorded three albums and conducted a nationwide tour, selling out stadiums across Canada. Currently studying piano and taking acting lessons, Victoria aspires to become both a singer and an actress. Her first EP features the single “Right Here,” and she is currently working on new material for an international release.
