Future Drops His First Mixtape Of 2016

Purple Reign is the latest mixtape to be dropped by rapper Future.

The 13-track mixtape was released for free download on this past Sunday morning. It’s executive produced by Future’s go-to collab team, Metro Boomin and DJ Esco.

This mixtape has a retro old-school Future sound to it. This is causing fan reception to be split on this album. Over social media, many have expressed that they love this release because it reminds them of “classic Future,” while newer fans seem to be underwhelmed. The use of auto-tune in Purple Reign is a lot less than in Ds2 as well.

In the Twitterverse, it appears that fans are expressing mixed reactions to Future’s new mixtape:

The timing for Purple Reign to be released couldn’t be better as the rapper is heading on tour next month starting on the 17th with Ty Dolla $ign.

Purple Reign is a follow up to his last mixtape, What A Time To Be Alive (2015), and his last full-length album, DS2 (2015).

Will Purple Reign be as successful as his last full-length release Ds2? It did debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, when it was released last year. Will Future top some of his great hits such as Where Ya At (featuring Drake), I Won (featuring Kanye West), or Turn On The Lights? Last year was a very big year for the rapper after all: He released a critically acclaimed full-length album and three mixtapes, including one in collaboration with Drake. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the future of Future holds.
