This year belonged to British synth-pop trio Years & Years. In January, the band won the prestigious BBC Sound of 2015, a title that has historically been given to up-and-comers turned successful stars including Adele, Ellie Goulding, Haim and last year’s winner (who Years & Years opened for), Sam Smith. So, it’s been written in the stars all year that these Brits would make it big and with the release of their debut album Communion, which came out this summer, the prophecy has come true. With undeniably catchy melodies and a keen ear for slick synth-pop layering, Communion is a stellar introduction to a band who is just getting started.
