If you haven’t heard about the icon behind “Bodak Yellow”—which is about to become your new anthem—here’s your official introduction to Cardi B.
Talk about getting you a girl who does both, Cardi B has dabbled in a lot and succeeded in every she arena she’s entered. From working as a stripper and to being a viral Instagrammer, to starring on Love & Hip Hop and appearing on Being Mary Jane, to becoming a rap sensation—Cardi has made some real money moves. Here’s just a taste of what the Bronx native has been up to.
Cardi B currently has the highest charting song by a female rapper since Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.” Before this hit, she dropped two mixtapes and then signed a deal with Atlantic Records. The first mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1, was released last March. A few months later, the second instalment came out, complete with a feature from Migos’ Offset.
Speaking of Migos, the hip hop trio brought her out at their performance at Toronto’s Veld Music festival. The next day, Drake brought her out as a surprise guest performer at the eighth annual OVO Fest. Drake was even caught showing Cardi B some love backstage saying, “I’m proud of you,” recognizing how much she’s accomplished while staying true to herself.
A true star on the rise, Cardi B recently cashed in and copped a Bentley to celebrate this massive moment in her life. In case you didn’t know what pushed her success over the edge, “Bodak Yellow” is playing in the background of a video she posted on Instagram to let everyone know she’s been living good and feeling better.
This past weekend Cardi B performed at the MoMA PS1 Warm Up in New York and the crowd went all the way off. If the charts didn’t confirm her success, this video of her performance definitely does. Cardi B barely had to do any work as the crowd shouted back her lyrics.
Cardi B has only begun, so stay tuned.
