Grimes Teases Two New Songs

Grimes is finally sharing some new music.

The Canadian artist has shared previews of two new tracks today via Twitter. She describes the first track as a wistful “cheesy love song” that “i don’t like but everyone else likes,” and the second song as a much darker “ethereal chav jam that’s like … a cyberpunk interpretation of the bajirao mastani movie.” Check out both of the teasers below.

The first track highlights Grimes’ signature high-pitched, ethereal vocals over a sporadic 1980s-style drum loop while the second track features distorted vocals over a much more frantic and faster beat. The songs, assumed to be off Grimes’ highly anticipated new album, are presumed to be “adore u (beautiful game)” and “4 æm,” both noted on the potential tracklist she shared last month.

Most recently, Grimes joined K-pop group Loona yyxy for their latest song “love4eva” and earlier this year, she joined forces yet again with Janelle Monáe on the Dirty Computer track “PYNK,” an unapologetically sexual and feminist track following a video of what seems to be a joyous coming-out party in the desert. The pair previously collaborated on Grimes’ “Venus Fly,” which appeared on her 2015 LP Art Angels.

While fans are anxiously awaiting more music from the multi hyphenate, no official release date for Grimes’ fifth studio album has been announced yet, but the 30-year-old has promised that the long-awaited follow-up to her electro-pop masterpiece Art Angels would arrive sometime this year. Seemingly on schedule, the singer-songwriter was teasing the release of a new track back in May—but the artist insists that the new record has yet to be completed.
