Harry Styles Finally Addresses Whether Or Not ‘Perfect’ Is About Taylor Swift

The first thing we thought when we heard One Direction’s single Perfect a few weeks ago was “Woah, is Harry Styles throwing shade at Taylor Swift?”

Now, a month later, Harry Styles has finally addressed the question we all asked. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight‘s Samantha Harris, he didn’t shy away from answering.

“Obviously, you write a lot of stuff from personal experience, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be so literal,” he said. “People can interpret a lot of different things in different ways. And I’m not going to tell someone it’s not about what they think it’s about, because I think the whole point is—it’s about whatever it means to you.”

It’s not a definite yes or no, but we’re *interpreting* it as a probably. You can watch the interview below.

The song was co-written by Styles and the lyric in question comes from the song’s bridge: “If you like cameras flashing anytime we go out, oh yeah / And if you’re looking for someone to write your breakup songs about, baby I’m perfect,” Styles sings.

Styles was praised for giving Taylor a taste of her own medicine—many of her 1989 lyrics allude to their brief stint as a couple.
