Harry Styles Performs Two New Songs During His First 2018 Arena Show

Lorde performed an unreleased Melodrama track for a few lucky concert-goers last week, and Harry Styles has now followed suit with a couple new tunes of his own.

Over the weekend, Styles travelled to Basel, Switzerland to kick off the second European leg of his first solo concert tour. In between performing hits from last year’s Harry Styles as well as a few old One Direction favourites, Styles decided to test out two new songs that we assume got cut from his latest album at the last minute.

The first song, presumably called “Anna,” is a rollicking guitar-driven love song with a catchy chorus that’s tailor-made to inspire sing-alongs. Interestingly, Styles turned the tune into something of a mashup by squeezing in a few bars from George Michael’s “Faith.”

Styles ditched his guitar before performing “Medicine,” a darker-sounding tune that’s reminiscent of other classic-rock inspired tracks like “Kiwi” and “Only Angel.” While the recording quality of fan-uploaded videos makes it difficult to hear what Styles is saying, “Medicine”—as to be expected—seems to compare feelings of intense infatuation to drug use.

Styles had a big weekend, as he also won two iHeartRadio Music Awards this past Sunday. While he lost the Best Solo Breakout award to fellow ex-One Direction member Louis Tomlinson, he can sleep soundly knowing that the two awards he did win—Best Cover Song (for his soulful cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”) and Best Music Video (for “Sign of the Times”)—were voted on by fans. Unfortunately Styles wasn’t able to accept his awards in person, but he made up for his absence by recording a sweet video thanking his fans for their continued support.

And last week, luxury brand Gucci announced that Styles signed on to help promote the company’s new tailoring campaign. The partnership is kind of a no-brainer, as Styles went so far as to dress himself and his young co-stars in Gucci ensembles for his colourful “Kiwi” music video. Plus, his fashion sense has always been on point—who else would perform an entire set wearing a black suit completely covered in glitter?

It’ll be a while before Styles’ solo tour comes to North America (Styles will perform at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on June 16 and at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on July 6), but we’ll continue to keep an eye out in case he decides to drop any other original songs or covers before then.
