It’s been 27 years since the remaining founding members of hip-hop group NWA last performed together. That was, until Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella and MC Ren hit the stage at this past weekend at Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
Musician-turned-box office gold-maker Ice Cube orchestrated the on-stage reunion, bringing together all founding members, minus of course the late Eazy E, for the first time since 1989. Ice Cube appeared on The Late Late Show this week to discuss the reunion, which he describes as driving around in a really nice car, where everyone else can see that you’re cool, but you can’t see it yourself.
The 1980s West Coast group have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the past year thanks to the critically acclaimed film Straight Outta Compton.
While appearing on The Late Late Show, Ice Cube also talked about his relationship with Prince, including directing the musical legend in his video for “Love Story”. Cube paid tribute to Prince this past weekend during his Coachella set, wearing a purple bandanna and purple sneakers.
