We’ve known for a long time that Toronto’s very own Jessie Reyez is one of the most exciting new voices of 2017, and now the world is catching up. Reyez dropped her debut EP Kiddo this year, which included the single “Shutter Island,” which earned Reyez her first two iHeartRadio MMVA nominations for Best New Canadian Artist and Fan Fave Video.
Now Jessie has also captured the attention of late night. Last night, Reyez made her late-night TV debut on the famous Studio 6B stage at 30 Rockefeller. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Reyez filled the historic stage playing her guitar and performing her breakout track “Figures” solo.
Reyez’s soulful and emotional performance of “Figures” earned the singer a standing ovation, a well-deserved reception to one of the most exciting songs of the year.
Reyez has stayed busy this year on the festival circuit, performing at The Governors Ball and SXSW and later on the BET Awards. Reyez dropped her short film Gatekeeper just weeks before making her debut at the iHeartRAdio MMVAs, where she gave a stunning red carpet performance (watch here).
The Toronto singer has quickly become an artist that other musicians are clamoring to work with. Reyez scored a solo spot on Calvin Harris’ stacked new album Funk Wave Bounces Volume 1, with a features section that reads like a laundry list of the biggest pop stars in music today, including Katy Perry, Pharrell, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj, Frank Ocean, Future and more. Even with the ear of the world’s biggest musicians listening to her, Reyez has continued to work with and help promote her fellow Canadian artists including Alessia Cara and Sonreal.
After showing she can hang with one of the biggest dance and EDM artists in the world, Reyez is continuing to prove there’s no genre she can’t master. Her latest collaboration is with singer songwriter Allan Rayman on the haunting single “Repeat.”
