The full soundtrack to Disney’s upcoming remake of Beauty and the Beast doesn’t arrive until March 10 (one week before the film premieres on March 17), but today we’re getting the full version of the new theme song—and it’s so pretty.
Following in Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson’s Oscar-winning footsteps are Ariana Grande and John Legend, who are a match made in Disney heaven on their version of the Beauty and the Beast theme. Sticking close to the title track original from 1991, Grande and Legend’s duet fills us with warm fuzzies and dreams of dancing around a giant ballroom with a guy who doesn’t look great now, but will definitely be hotter in the near future. Ah, love.
Disney first gave fans a sneak peek at the new theme earlier this week when they released the final trailer for Beauty And the Beast.
Although Grande and Legend have taken over the singing duties for the famous theme song, Canadian superstar Celine Dion will still be returning to the Beauty and the Beast franchise. Dion will be reunited with Alan Menken as well as Oscar-winning lyricist Tim Rice for the new original song, “How Does A Moment Last Forever.”
In addition to Dion’s “How Does A Moment Last Forever,” the upcoming remake will include a performance of another original song from Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens, who plays the Beast opposite Emma Watson’s Belle.
Watson and Stevens will be joined on screen by an all-star cast, including Luke Evans as Gaston, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Audra McDonald as Madame De Garderobe, Kevin Kline as Belle’s father Maurice and Stanley Tucci as a new character named Cadenza (check out the stunning character posters here).
Beauty and the Beast and Fifty Shades Darker have two of the most highly anticipated soundtracks dropping this year (see our full list here). Both have now released their lead singles featuring four of the biggest pop artists in the world (Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik dropped “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” in December). With the albums arriving only one month apart, it will be interesting to see which makes a bigger splash on the charts—sex with a bit of romance, or romance with a bit of nope nevermind no sex at all.
Beauty and the Beast will arrive in theatres on March 17.
