John Legend gave fans a personal performance last night on Facebook Live, debuting his new single “Love Me Now.” This is the first track released off of his forthcoming album Darkness & Light, expected to drop later this year.
The intimate 13-minute Facebook Live video opened in true Legend fashion, with him sitting at a piano. He went on to give a live performance of his emotional new ballad.
“I don’t know who’s gonna kiss you when I’m gone / So I’m gonna love you now, like it’s all I have,” Legend sang.
The piano instrumental and angelic high notes in the song give it an element of raw beauty.
“Its all about, you know, just loving and living life to the fullest. Don’t wait till tomorrow, hold the people you love close to you right now,” said Legend.
The artwork for the track features a steamy close up of him and wife, Chrissy Teigen.
Legend revealed that Darkness & Light is “coming soon” and will feature the talents of Chance The Rapper, Blake Mills, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard and Kamasi Washington.
“The music is really, really, good,” Legend proclaimed. “I think it’s my best work yet.”
Legend concluded the video by answering 20 questions from fans all over the world, ranging from his musical inspirations, political views, what he does for fun and his favourite pizza toppings.
The singer revealed he’s working on a track inspired by his newborn daughter Luna, and that he can’t stop listening to Frank Ocean and Rihanna’s latest albums.
And as for his favourite pizza toppings, he’s simple like his music: Pepperoni and cheese.
