It’s been a great year to be Julia Michaels. The songwriter and singer created a name for herself outside of the recording booth with her debut single “Issues” in January. Michaels performed her raw and emotional song at the 2017 iHeartRadio MMVAs (watch here), cementing herself as one of the most exciting new artists of the year.
Michaels followed up the release of “Issues” with her flirty “Uh Huh,” dropping an intimate and joyful video for the pop jam last week (watch here). Now, Michaels is again switching things up, showing off a new side to her voice and writing with the song “Worst In Me.”
First appearing on Michaels’ EP Nervous System, which dropped on Friday, “Worst In Me” shows off the California natives’ expertise in capturing the many emotional sides of a relationship in one song. The sombre pop track has Michaels questioning her relationship, singing “But maybe it’s the worst in me / That’s bringing out the worst in you / I know we could fix these kinks / But the worst in me doesn’t want to.”
It’s been a busy few weeks for Michaels. Not only did she release her second music video “Uh Huh”, drop her debut EP Nervous System and perform on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Michaels was also announced as a nominee for Best New Artist at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.
The stacked category has Michaels facing off against Khalid, Kodak Black, Sza, Young M. A. and Noah Cyrus. The 2017 MTV VMAs will be hosted by Katy Perry and air on Sunday, August 27.
