There may be no more Justin Bieber meet and greets, no throwing presents onstage and no asking for pictures, but part of the Justin Bieber that millions of fans fell in love with six years ago is slowly returning.
The troubled Canadian pop singer began reaching out to fans this week and DM’ing on Twitter with lyrics to a new song he was teasing. It’s the kind of fan interaction that helped make Bieber a household name and something we haven’t seen from the superstar in years.
The new song is now available for all of Bieber’s Twitter followers to hear and we have a feeling they’re going to like it.
Bieber teamed up with Major Lazer and singer MØ for the track “Cold Water,” as well as his “Love Yourself” co-writer Ed Sheeran, who’s listed as one of the song’s writers along with Benny Blanco.
The track is reminiscent of Bieber’s older catalogue, with inspirational lyrics like “I just want to stay afloat / If you feel you’re sinking, I will jump right over / Into cold, cold water for you,” bringing back feelings of the Believe era. Thanks to Major Lazer’s signature musical arrangement combining dance hall, reggae and EDM, the track is brought into 2016.
Major Lazer and MØ have struck summertime gold in the past, dropping last year’s monster hit “Lean On” along with DJ Snake. Now it looks like the two may be going for the top of the charts again, this time with Bieber along for the ride with “Cold Water.”
Today’s release includes a simple lyric video with white font on a black screen, but here’s to hoping a flashy new music video isn’t far behind.
