Justin Bieber Is Taking A Mental Health Time Out

Wed, March, 27 by CORRINA ALLEN

Beliebers better belieb that Justin Bieber will be back with a new album… just not as soon as some fans might like. The Canadian pop sensation is instead taking a break to focus on his mental health—a move we support, especially in light of the fact that Bieber is talking about it on Instagram, contributing to a growing movement to increase awareness and acceptance of people with mental health issues.

“I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that, you pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour,” wrote Bieber next to a photo that showed him enjoying some downtime and sunshine.

“I want my career to be sustainable,” he explained, “I have been looking, seeking, trial and error as most of us do, I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be… Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health.”

So I read a lot of messages saying you want an album .. I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that, you pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour. I have been looking, seeking, trial and error as most of us do, I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be. Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health. I will come with a kick ass album ASAP, my swag is undeniable and my drive is indescribable his love is supernatural his grace is that reliable…. the top is where I reside period whether I make music or not the king said so. 👑 but I will come with a vengeance believe that.. (grammar and punctuation will be terrible pretend it’s a text where u just don’t care).

Beneath the post, Bieber’s new wife Hailey commented, “That’s right 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼😭❤️❤️ love you so much it hurts!!!” Scooter Braun, DJ Khaled, Big Sean, Major Lazer, and other artists also expressed their support.

Bieber cut short the tour to promote his last album (2015’s Purpose) with a similar Instagram message saying “I have let my insecurities get the best of me at times” but this admission of “deep-rooted issues” is a bigger step towards talking about the mental and emotional strain that even the most successful, cover-of-Vogue-making people in the world can face at times.

Bieber announcing to his 106 million Instagram followers that he’s struggling might make it easier for one of his fans to tell just one person in their life that they’re having a hard time, too. And that’s so much bigger than a new album.
