Kanye West was given a four minute free-for-all during tonight’s MTV VMAs and, in typical Kanye West fashion, delivered a rambling speech that continually got *this* close to completing a full thought, but never quite made it to the finish line.
West opened the speech by announcing a new video, saying, “I came here to present my new video, but before I do that I’m going to talk. Later tonight, “Famous” might lose to Beyoncé, but I can’t be mad. I’m always wishing for Beyoncé to win.”
Bringing things full circle, West reminded viewers of his allegiance to the Beyhive by shouting out both ex-girlfriend Amber Rose, who was by West’s side the night of his infamous “I’m Lemme You Finish” moment at the 2009 VMAs, and Taylor Swift, who is once again feuding with the rapper.
West addressed the controversy over his “Famous” lyrics and video, which depicts Swift as well as among many other celebs naked, saying, “People came up to me, like, that’s right, take Taylor down. I love all y’all, that’s why I called her.” Thanks to West’s wife Kim Kardashian, West has the Snapchats to kinda prove this call happened (there’s a *lot* of cuts in the videos).
Before completing his point regarding the Swift situation, West then moved on to mentors, including getting advice from “rich, white people.” Naming Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford and more, West also gave a shout out to Puff Daddy, a mentor of his that is not only still alive, but was in the audience.
West went on to call Chance The Rapper “the future,” talked a bit about boats, and then threw to his new video for “Fade.”
Featuring Teyana Taylor doing her best impression of Jennifer Beals in Flashdance, Taylor dances her way around a gym in a thong and barely-there top. As if the video wasn’t hot enough, Taylor then grabs NBA star Iman Shumpert for a shower scene before turning into a cat and laying down with a baby and some sheep. Okay, well, it was really hot until the ending.
West doesn’t appear in the video for “Fade” or on the actual song, which is available now through, no big surprise, Tidal.
