It’s been four years since Katy Perry dropped her Grammy nominated fourth studio album Prism. Taking some time away from the spotlight, Perry returned to the studio in 2016 to unleash her inspirational track “Rise” just in time for the Summer Olympics.
Returning to her pop roots, Perry made her official comeback earlier this year by dropping her politically woke track “Chained To The Rhythm” with Skip Marley. Perry followed up the single with the sexually-charged tongue-in-cheek single “Bon Appetit” with hip hop trio Migos, releasing the NSFW video on Friday.
Served up as a piece of food, Perry’s body is chopped, rolled and boiled in the video, which aims to portray the misogyny towards women’s bodies being treated like meat. At least, we think that’s what she’s doing.
Now Perry has confirmed that “Chained To The Rhythm” and “Bon Appetit” are in fact the lead singles from her upcoming fifth studio album, which will be titled Witness. Set to drop in full on June 9, Perry made the album announcement this week, sharing a teaser of the disc’s title track.
In addition to the new album title and song, Perry also announced Witness The Tour, posting a trailer for the upcoming North American tour that will feature the pop singer performing her biggest hits, as well as tracks off her upcoming album.
The new tour marks Perry’s first since The Prismatic World Tour, which took place between 2014 to 2015 and included 149 shows.
Perry’s recent foray into political and social matters, including campaigning for Hillary Clinton in 2016, will continue with her new tour. Some of the proceeds for the Witness The Tour ticket sales will go towards the Boys and Girls Club of America, with fans also able to enter for the chance to win free tickets by signing up at GlobalCitizen.org.
Witness The Tour includes three Canadian tour dates, including the final stop on February 5 in Vancouver. Tickets for the US leg of the tour will go on sale on Monday, May 22, with Canadian dates on sale on Friday, May 26.
Perry will perform on this weekend’s season finale of Saturday Night Live along with host Dwayne Johnson.
