Last week, Black Panther director Ryan Coolger announced that he had personally selected Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar and Lamar’s business and music partner Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith to produce the soundtrack to the upcoming comic book film. As if we weren’t already excited about the film starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, throw Lamar in the mix.
Shortly after Coolger’s announcement, Lamar released the album’s lead single “All The Stars” with labelmate SZA. Now thanks to a new Black Panther trailer, we’re hearing another original Lamar track, this time teaming up with Vince Staples.
Though Lamar has yet to release the title of the song, he can be heard rapping throughout the high energy clip, which is giving us some Kanye West “Blkkk Skkkn Head” vibes. We don’t know whether Lamar plans to drop a music video to go along with the new track, but what could be cooler visuals than a Black Panther trailer?
Lamar isn’t the first major musician to double as artist and executive producer on a major film. Back in 2014, Lorde took over the reigns as the curator and contributor to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack with huge success.
Black Panther hits theatres on February 16, with the soundtrack dropping one week earlier on February 9.
