Kings Of Leon Are Back With New Single ‘Waste A Moment’

Continuing their streak of releasing a new album every three years, Kings of Leon have dropped the first single from their upcoming LP WALLS, due out in October.

“Waste A Moment” also continues the Tennessee rockers’ longer streak of stadium-ready rock that blends echoey, U2-reminiscent chords with subtle nods to their grungier early days. Following their tried-and-tested formula of hurried guitar and Caleb Followill’s skilled croon building into band-wide harmonies, “Waste A Moment” isn’t by any means a departure, but it’s easy on the ears.  The lyrical suggestions are something we can get on board with, too—with Caleb urging we, “Take the time to waste a moment / Never ask to be forgiven” on the upbeat chorus.

Kings of Leon, made up of the brothers Followill (Caleb, Jared and Nathan) and their cousin (Matthew), are working with Arcade Fire and Florence + The Machine producer Markus Dravs on the new release. So although the first single plays it slightly safe, we’re hopeful we’ll hear some innovative production and boundary-pushing on the full final product.

In an interview with EW last month, frontman Caleb seemed confident that WALLS dabbles in new territory.

“We’re trying to change people’s perception of [us],” he said. “We have more depth on this album and more situations where we dipped our toe in before but never committed. Now we’re wanting to dive in. I know this is a pop-driven world and what we do isn’t necessarily at the top of the heap of music that people are listening to, but I feel like once people discover this album, it’s going to change them.”
