When it comes to promoting a film, no one is worse than Kristen Wiig. We mean that in the best way possible.
The actor, writer and comedian can do it all, appearing in dark comedies like Skeleton Twins and writing and starring in the incomparable Bridesmaids. But when it comes to talking about her upcoming project on The Tonight Show, Wiig has a history of ignoring the status quo and the movie in general. And we love her for it.
Wiig appeared on The Tonight Show this week as current Bachlorette contestant JoJo Fletcher and in keeping with her usual spoof, displayed little to no knowledge of the person she was imitating. When asked to identify the various suitors, Wiig used her SNL improv skills, naming the men Scothcy, Deuce and Mark Hamill.
(‘JoJosephina’, as Wiig referred to herself, stayed in character as she eventually plugged her new movie, Ghostbusters (read our enthusiastic review), but not before agreeing that Kristen Wiig is a very good actress.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Wiig has trolled The Tonight Show with an impression.
From reality TV to drama, Game of Thrones may be one of the biggest series of all time, but that doesn’t mean Kristen Wiig is a fan. Or, maybe she is, and chose instead to appear as Khaleesi with little to no knowledge of Westeros. Wiig put on a British accent to play Khaleesi, real name Karen, who hails from the forest, lives in a dirt dome with her dragons, and loves to use her favourite greeting, ‘Hiiiiiiiiieee.’
The hilarious Welcome To Me actor got the thumbs up from the real Daenerys, actor Emilia Clarke.
Wiig took on the world’s most famous boy bander when she wore tight pants and a brown wig to play One Direction’s Harry Styles in 2014 to help friend Jimmy Fallon celebrate his first week as the host of The Tonight Show.
Like Clarke, Styles also saw the honour in being portrayed by Wiig, inviting her to dance at the SNL 40th Anniversary after party last year.

Earlier this year, Wiig was set to promote her role in the upcoming Zoolander 2 film. Instead of striking a blue steel pose, she struck a Heisman pose, hilariously flubbing her way through the interview as Denver Bronco quarterback, Peyton Manning.
In addition to being ten numbers off when discussing that week’s Super Bowl score, Wiig also threw what can best be described as an anti-spiral when aiming a gold football at a cutout.
Appealing to all audiences, Manning marked the second time Wiig appeared as an athlete.
The tradition first began when Fallon was still the host of Late Night, with Wiig wearing possibly the world’s worst bald cap to appear as NBA legend Michael Jordan.
To answer the question, will you really feel like MJ if you wear Jordans? Yes, yes you will.
What always works so well with the recurring skit is that Wiig’s lack of knowledge about the person she impersonating is perfectly countered by Fallon’s readily available list of facts on the celeb. Where did Michael Jordan play college basketball? Kristen Wiig has no idea, but that’s okay.
Watch The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday to Friday at 11:30E on CTV Two and catch repeats weekdays at 4E/1P on Much.
