Back in April, frequent Coachella attendee Lana Del Rey hit the Palm Springs dessert to take in one of the biggest festivals of the year. On her way home from the two-weekend event, Del Rey stopped at one of her favourite nature spots in California to record herself singing a new song inspired by her time at the annual festival.
I’m not gonna lie- I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount. I find It’s a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God’s good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated. On my way home I found myself compelled to visit an old favorite place of mine at the rim of the world highway where I took a moment to sit down by the sequoia grove and write a little song. I just wanted to share this in hopes that one individual’s hope and prayer for peace might contribute to the possibility of it in the long run. Hope everyone has a nice day, with love from California
The video was only a short teaser of a song, but now Del Rey has dropped the official recording for her new track titled “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind.”
As stated in her lengthy caption for the teaser of the song, in “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind” Del Rey explores her feelings of division over enjoying a music festival while knowing that millions of people around the world are suffering.
Singing “What about all these children?/ And what about all their parents?/ And what about all their crowns they wear in hair so long like mine?,” Del Rey’s new song is one of her most personal yet, with the singer showing a self awareness that we haven’t always heard on her previous four albums.
Lana posted a picture of a hand written note on her Instagram page along with the link to “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind.” Writing, “What a blessing it is to make music in general and to have the freedom to put songs out about things that move me in real time,” Del Rey doesn’t specify whether the new song will be included on her upcoming fifth studio album Lust For Life.
Although a trailer, album cover and two songs from Del Rey’s highly anticipated record have been shared, she’s yet to set an official release date. Del Rey did give fans something to look forward to, with the end of the letter promising the new video with ‘Starboy’ coming soon.
Del Rey’s Lust For Life includes her first album collaboration, enlisting her friend The Weeknd for the title track. Del Rey and The Weeknd, whose third studio album Starboy featured a song with the singer, dropped a teaser music video for “Lust For Life” in April.
