All Lana Del Rey wants to do is get High By The Beach, but at this year’s Billboard Women in Music event, she’ll be honored for a different kind of blazing — Del Rey is 2015’s Trailblazer award recipient.
“Lana Del Rey has done things her way from the moment she first burst on the scene, and continues to make brave and bold choices that defy convention,” said Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s Entertainment Group, which consists of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. “She’s a trailblazer from her music to her mystery to her multitude of other interests. She keeps everyone awaiting her next move.”
Her latest album released this year, Honeymoon, peaked at no. 2 on the Billboard charts. She also has eight Billboard charting singles and five top 10 hits. Honeymoon, the lead single from her latest album, went all the way to No. 1.
This is the 10th iteration of Billboard’s Women in Music ceremony, which focuses on and honors the most influential women in today’s music industy, including female executives.
Lady Gaga is being honored as Woman of the Year, Selena Gomez is this year’s Chart Topper, Demi Lovato is this year’s Rulebreaker and Alabama Shakes’ frontwoman Brittany Howard is being given the Powerhouse award. All four women will also be performing at the event, scheduled to air on December 18.
