Lana Del Rey Releases ‘Lust For Life’ Single With The Weeknd

Singer Lana Del Rey surprised fans on Monday by posting the video from an impromptu recording session in the California desert after attending Weekend 1 of Coachella. Now the singer is dropping her second new piece of music this week with her single “Lust For Life” featuring The Weeknd.

The second single and title track from her upcoming fifth album, “Lust For Life” marks the first time another singer has been featured on one of Del Rey’s albums (as for Lana, she appeared on The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness and last year’s Starboy).

“Lust For Life” is a slow moving track that plays with Motown sounds and lyrics from girl groups of the 1960s, paying particular homage to the Angels 1963 single “My Boyfriend’s Back.” As for The Weeknd, the “Starboy” singer shares the vocal duties on the track, with the two trading off on lines throughout the melodic and entrancing single.

Lana and The Weeknd both posted an official image of the pair from the music video shoot, with The Weeknd striking a power pose in all black while Del Rey sits on the grass in a red dress and lace gloves in front of the Toronto singer.

Del Rey returned to the charts with “Love” in February, the lead single from Lust For Life. Less than a month after releasing “Love,” Lana performed the single live for the first time at SXSW in Austin, looking relaxed and confident on stage.

Following “Love,” Del Rey released a film noir-inspired trailer for her fifth studio album, the Lust For Life album cover a few weeks later.

The album trailer shares the same black and white aesthetic and old Hollywood, or as Lana puts it, Hollyweird inspiration as today’s video. Though not an official video or traditional lyric video, today’s “Lust For Life” video stars The Weeknd and Lana sitting on top of the ‘H’ in the Hollywood sign, with the shot pulling back to reveal that they are part of the set from the office Lana works out of in the Lust For Life trailer.

Del Rey has still not announced an official release date for Lust For Life, but with two singles and an album trailer, an album drop can’t be far behind.
