Liam Payne’s first solo single “Strip That Down” featuring Quavo has just gone triple-platinum, which means that he now holds the title of having the best performing solo single out of all former One Direction members.
Following the departure of former 1D member Zayn Malik, who led the Pop Songs chart in 2016 for two weeks with “Pillowtalk,” member Niall Horan recently held the spot at the top with “Slow Hands.” However, it now looks like Payne has passed Horan—the first time that two members of the same group have reigned back-to-back on the charts.
The 24-year-old singer took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the overwhelming support he’s received from fans all around.

While Payne has joined Malik and Horan in leading the charts, this still leaves two members of One Direction who have yet to reach this achievement. Harry Styles reached a No. 12 with “Sign of the Times” back in April, while Louis Tomlinson rose to No. 25 with “Back to You” featuring Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals almost a month ago. While former members are achieving their own success individually, the group as a whole still haven’t reached the No. 1 spot yet despite peaking to No. 3 with their debut hit “What Makes You Beautiful” back in 2012.
Payne’s solo success follows the announcement of Payne’s newest single “Bedroom Floor,” which is set to be released on Oct. 20. After the recent birth of his first son with singer Cheryl Cole and the rising success of “Strip That Down,” it seems like it’s a good year for Liam and he won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
