YouTube star Lilly Singh has built up a social media following of millions thanks to her heartfelt and hilarious videos on real life issues, including interracial dating. For her latest video, Singh invited Workaholics actor Adam DeVine to play her boyfriend and depict a quasi-reality of what it’s like for South Asian women to bring a white man home to their family.
Of course, Singh and DeVine’s spoof version of interracial dating is just one example of a possible scenario, but the intent to impress future in-laws, adopt cultures and try to convince your parents the last time you were fully naked was at birth all rings true.
Singh, as usual, plays her parents, as well as an aunt, uncle and cousin, impressively taking on five roles, while also playing herself in the YouTube clip titled ‘When A Brown Girl Dates A White Boy.’
The two comedians had instant chemistry, something that is apparent both in the video on social taboos and in the outtakes blooper reel Singh uploaded to her YouTube page. Singh gives DeVine a quick lesson in Indian culture, but thankfully the comedian has seen Slumdog Millionaire. It’s really the only reference he needs.
Singh and DeVine met this past June at the premiere of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, with Lilly vlogging her red carpet pose-off with DeVine and his co-star Zac Efron. Our jealousy is real.
DeVine is the latest celebrity to make a guest appearance on Singh’s blog, which has previously included videos with Gina Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Selena Gomez, Jimmy Fallon and Michelle Obama.
The final season of Workaholics premieres January 14 on Much, with Season 5 available now on CraveTV.
