Little Mix Don’t Pull Any Punches With ‘Shout Out To My Ex’

Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards and former One Direction member Zayn Malik were one of music’s most high-profile couples for years, which meant their 2015 break-up was prime material for tabloid fodder. Now, Edwards and her group Little Mix are using their new single to set the record straight.

Basically, if we’re to believe the arena bop “Shout Out To My Ex”—Edwards is better off on her own.

Edwards opens the upbeat breakup anthem, not holding back as she sings, “This is a shout out to my ex / Heard he in love with some other chick / Yeah yeah, that hurt me, I’ll admit / Forget that boy, I’m over it / I hope she gettin’ better sex / Hope she ain’t fakin’ it like I did, babe / Took four long years to call it quits / Forget that boy, I’m over it.”

Edwards has been candid about her relationship with Malik, with the singer recently revealing that their engagement ended with a single text message delivered by Malik—something the former 1D member denies.

Little Mix released their first book Our World today, with Edwards going into more detail about the breakup. Perrie also writes about the huge outpouring of support she received from her bandmates Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, a bond that jumps off the screen in the quartet’s latest music video.

“Shout Out To My Ex” is part Spice Girls “Say You’ll Be There” and part “Crossroads,” with a heavy influence of Coachella. The four women are oozing attitude and joy throughout the desert-themed road trip, even gifting us this flawless moment.

Promoting self-love and female friendship, Little Mix’s “Shout Out To My Ex” is the perfect teaser to get fans excited for their fourth studio album Glory Days, which is set to be released November 18.
