For the fourth year in a row, Jack Antonoff used his impressive contact list to throw a star-studded event to raise money for the Ally Coalition. Established for LGBTQ youth to help fight against homelessness, Antonoff and his sister, designer Rachel Antonoff, hit the stage at the annual Ally Coalition benefit in New York this week with some of their famous friends, including Lorde, The National, Kacey Musgraves, and more.
During Wednesday night’s event, Antonoff and Lorde, who worked together on Lorde’s Melodrama and Antonoff’s latest Bleachers album Gone Now, performed a handful of songs together, including a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Run Away With Me.” Jepsen, who has performed at the Ally Coalition event before and appeared on Gone Now, received the cover treatment this week with Lorde and Antonoff reimagining the high energy pop track as a melancholy ballad.
Sitting back to back at the piano, Antonoff left the singing up to Lorde, who delivered a haunting and beautiful rendition of the Emotion single. With Jepsen hard at work on her fourth studio album, we’re hoping it includes a duet with Lorde. That would be, in a word, the coolest.
If you’re looking for something a little more suitable for dancing, we suggest Jepsen’s original version of the track. Cue the horns.
