When it comes to writing catchy hip-hop songs comprised of lyrics prime for being woven into Instagram sign offs, no one in music right now is doing that better that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Their breakout single Thrift Shop had fans exclaiming “But it was only 99 cents,” for months after its release. In 2015, they dropped Downtown and again found radio gold thanks to its infectious beat and catchy chorus. Now the Seattle duo have done a 180 from their last release, the emotionally poignant Leon Bridges track Kevin, to remind us that there ain’t no party like a Macklemore & Ryan Lewis party.
Debuting today on their Facebook page, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dropped the video for their track Brad Pitt’s Cousin off 2016’s This Unruly Mess I’ve Made. The video is comprised of footage taken while on tour in the US and Europe, with Macklemore keeping his showmanship status on fleek. A group of female dancers in a bathroom, a panda suit, a roller rink, an airplane, a grocery store, a dentist’s chair, and a snowy hill are just some of the backdrops Macklemore uses for his signature no-holds barred performance. Brad Pitt’s Cousin also features a very cute costar for two scenes, with Macklemore’s daughter making her music video debut.
The new video comes with a special treat at the end with scenes of Macklemore silently rapping the song’s lyrics while in public places before breaking into fits of laughter. We have a lot of respect for a guy willing to perform his way through airport security. That takes guts.
Watch Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform along with Alessia Cara and Nick Jonas at the 2016 iHeartRadio MMVAs on Sunday, June 19.
