It seems like Canadian R&B duo Majid Jordan are crossing borders and collaborating outside of the OVO label, having hinted at new music with American Teen singer, Khalid.
Majid Jordan told Exclaim! that they might be releasing new music in a few weeks and name dropped singer-songwriter Khalid as a possible feature.
“[Khalid]’s from El Paso, TX. We’re going there to DJ, and he’s going to pull up to the party. We’ll see what El Paso brings,” Majid Al Maskati teased.
With their initial releases, the pair have limited their collaborations to instead focus on their own coupled efforts.
And when they have branched out, they’ve kept their features within the OVO fam. In 2016, they appeared on Roy Woods’ Nocturnal track “Chilli Peppers.” On their most recent EP The Space Between, PartyNextDoor penned and sang alongside them on “One I Want.” DVSN was also credited with writing, producing, and crooning on “My Imagination.”
On working exclusively within the OVO Sound Family, producer Jordan Ullman explained the reasoning in their episode of Spotlight: “I think just because of time, these are the people that we have worked with. We’ve met amazing artists on the way that we’ve also collaborated with that just aren’t on [The Space Between]. It takes time—we’re just those people—we want to have that conversation and then go to the studio. Then you’re manifesting it, the whole intent of the record.”
“We’re always worked with our OVO family, it just felt comfortable and it just felt right. We could call on that relationship at any moment,” Al-Maskati added.
Majid Jordan set out on the international leg of their world tour next month before wrapping it up at a final stop in Cape Town, South Africa on October 6.
