The first teaser trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is out and our favourite horned fairy is back and more evil than ever.
The trailer’s vivid opening visuals contrast with a sinister monologue delivered by Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent. “I remember the story of an evil witch and the princess she cursed to sleep forever,” she muses. “The story became legend, but this is no fairy tale.” Seems pretty dramatic.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will take place several years after the events of the first film, which depicted the story of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the evil fairy. According to Walt Disney Studio, it will “continue to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in the struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.”
Aside from Jolie, the film also stars Elle Fanning, who played Aurora in the first film, and newcomer to the series, Michelle Pfeiffer, who will play Queen Ingrith. We don’t know too much about Pfeiffer’s character, but Maleficent seems to be threatening her (very sassily, if we may add) in the trailer, so that’s something to look forward to.
For those wondering when the season of the witch is, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opens in theatres on October 18, 2019.
