It’s been two years since Maroon 5 released their fifth studio album V, which featured the hit singles “Sugar,” “Maps” and “Animals.” Now the band is working with a new collaborator and possibly signaling that a full album isn’t far behind.
After teasing the track yesterday on social media, Maroon 5 dropped the single “Don’t Wanna Know” featuring Kendrick Lamar at midnight. The breezy, trop-house track is produced by hitmaker Benny Blanco and is sure to perform well on radio.
The band is set to release a full music video for “Don’t Wanna Know” this Friday, with director David Dobkin (“Sugar”) behind the camera.
Maroon 5 is the latest name in a long list of collaborators the Grammy winning rapper has worked with in the past two years. Taylor Swift, Sia, Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Frank Ocean have all scored studio time with Lamar for their major album releases.
For his solo efforts, Lamar dropped his follow up to 2015’s critically acclaimed To Pimp A Butterfly with the compilation album untitled unmastered. earlier this year.
“Don’t Wanna Know” marks the first time Lamar has teamed up with all members of Maroon 5, but the Compton native has previously hit the studio with front man Adam Levine. The two musicians both appeared on The Lonely Island’s 2013 track, “YOLO.”
