Maroon 5 have had one of the longest lead ups to their sixth studio album Red Pill Blues, which is out this week, and the band isn’t done yet. After releasing the first single “Don’t Wanna Know” with Kendrick Lamar in 2016, they later dropped “Cold” with Future, “What Lovers Do” with SZA and, most recently, “Whiskey” featuring A$AP Rocky.
Now Maroon 5 are dropping their fifth single from the new album and are doing one thing different—they’re going it alone.
For the band’s new single “Wait,” Maroon 5 are going back to their roots and dropping a single without a featuring artist, slowing things down and crafting a somber pop track. Taking on their tried and true topic of relationships gone wrong, Adam Levine croons about his love woes with lyrics that beg for a second chance from his slighted lover.
The new single still has the same pop aesthetic we’ve come to expect from Maroon 5, but is reminiscent of the band’s 2012 record Overexposed.
Maroon 5’s Red Pill Blues is available starting November 3. The band have already announced a 2018 tour in support of the album along with opening act Julia Michaels, who appears on the band’s upcoming record. The Red Pill Blues Tour includes one Canadian date in Toronto on September 27.
