Few comedians have made us laugh as consistently over the years as Melissa McCarthy. The improv actress stole the show in Bridesmaids, brought the heat in, well, The Heat, and had us laughing so hard in The Spy that we forgot Jude Law and Jason Statham were even on the screen. Now that’s impressive.
Now McCarthy is back with a new comedy that looks like Troop Beverly Hills meets Donald Trump in The Boss.
After going from being the richest woman in the US to an ex-con with nowhere to live, McCarthy’s Michelle Darnell must start over and work for way back to the top.
Even though she’s the worst boss possibly in the history of time, Michelle is taken in by her kind employee, played by Kristen Bell. When Bell’s daughter needs help selling brownies for group the Dandelions, a take-off on Girl Scouts, Michelle see an opening for her next empire. Brownies (and girls) will be tossed.
The film was written by Steve Mallory (Identity Thief, Tammy), McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone, who also directs. In addition to McCarthy and Bell, The Boss also stars Peter Dinklage, Kathy Bates, and Kristen Schaal.
The Boss hits theaters April 8.
