Nick Jonas Gets Real About Heartbreak In New Video For ‘Chainsaw’

Nick Jonas announced his third solo album earlier this year and promised it would be his most personal yet—a statement Jonas is proving with each new piece of music.

Jonas has already released the steamy single “Close” with Tove Lo, and now he’s going dark and deep with his new track “Chainsaw.”

“Chainsaw” is definitely Jonas as his rawest. Inspired by his break-up with former girlfriend Olivia Culpo, Nick sings “Baby I’ll just take a chainsaw to the sofa / Where I held your body close for so long, so long/ I’m gonna break out all the china / Cause it’s just one more reminder you’re gone, you’re gone.”

Shot in Mammoth, California over a year ago by director Luke Monaghan (“I’m Not The Only One,” Sam Smith), Jonas tweeted that “Chainsaw” was the first video he made for Last Year Was Complicated and is also the song closest to his heart. The video is as visceral as the lyrics, with Jonas and an actress moving back and forth between passionate embraces and heated arguments until Jonas finally burns down the house they share.

Nick announced Last Year Was Complicated back in March, tweeting “When I first started making it I thought I knew what it would be about…Then I had a break up. It then became very clear what this thing would be about…And that I would really need to dig deep. Shit is too real sometimes… Reliving some of these real experiences through this music is hard. But I know it’s important that I do it. I want to be an open book in my art.”

“Chainsaw” is Jonas’ second single from Last Year Was Complicated, which is set to be released June 10. Don’t miss Nick Jonas when he returns to the 2016 iHeartRadio MMVA stage on Sunday, June 19!
