It’s been years in the making, but we won’t have to wait much longer to hear Nicki Minaj’s highly anticipated follow up to 2014’s The Pinkprint.
Following the release of her two lead singles “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz” on April 12, Minaj has now confirmed that her new album will drop in just over a month. Titled Queen, Minaj’s fourth studio album is set to be released on June 15.
The rapper confirmed the news during Monday night’s Met Gala. Wearing a stunning red Oscar De La Renta gown, Minaj told a reporter “It’s a big night for me because I just let the world know that my album is coming June 15 and it’s called Queen, and I can’t wait. I’m dressed like a queen every day, all day.”
While discussing the new album with Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in April, Minaj said the Queen will include tracks written almost two years ago, as well as songs that have been penned in the past few months. The release of Queen will also come with a new documentary on Apple, which will show Minaj in the recording studio making the album.
In addition to announcing the new album and its release date, Minaj also dropped new music videos for her two lead singles this week.
“Barbie Tingz” has Minaj and a group of dancers performing in front of a white backdrop while in a variety of costumes, including Minaj performing as a marionette and dressed in 18th century formal wear.
For “Chun Li,” Minaj shot an Asian-inspired video where she plays an assassin who takes out anyone in her way. Yeah, we could definitely see Nicki Minaj being an action star.
